ATTENTION TEACHERS, WRITING COACHES, MENTORS: Do you have an outstanding student? Would you like to see him or her take the next step in furthering their writing skills? Crystal Lake Publishing, a publisher of only the best Dark Fiction, may be able to help you help them.

We are offering a unique opportunity to spotlight your student’s work on our New Blood page. This is for never before published authors only. If you have someone you would like to recommend, email us at crystallakepub@gmail.com, put New Blood in the subject line, and briefly tell us why you feel this student should be considered. Please include a short bio of your budding author and attach an example of their work.

If we’re interested, we’ll work with your student on editing the story, as well as pay them to publish it online, where many fans are waiting to provide feedback. You will, of course, be mentioned, as well.

You never know, your star student may very well be the next Stephen King or Shirley Jackson!

This is a short story and a brilliant one at that.  In 61 pages author Wayne Simmons has packed in so much intensity that you feel like you are reading a full length novel.  Your attention is grabbed right at the get go and you are not released until the end.

“In the UK, a teenager goes missing every three minutes.”

Kayley Sands is about to become another statistic. Kayley is a young woman running from a past filled with nightmares.  Little does she know on that fateful bus ride home that the boogeyman is all too real.

Waking from the bus ride tied to a bed in an unknown basement, Kayley must come to terms with the horrors of her past before she can fight for a future.

I highly recommend reading this!  You can find The Girl in the Basement and other books by Wayne Simmons on Amazon.

Bloodeye published by http://www.darkfuse.com/ is quite the odd story.  I found myself reading passages to make sure I got it right.  I have enjoyed Craig Saunders’ books (Rain, Dark Words and Black Deeds) in the past, but this one left me a little empty.  I’m not saying it wasn’t good, just that it felt as though there needed to be more.

“Eyes open, it is just an ordinary world.  But through your blood eye?  The eye of your soul?  Everything is everything.

Keane Reid’s wife was murdered and Keane has been just going through the motions of living since that awful day.  When called to repair a backed up toilet in a pub, he finds a girl nailed to the wall with an eye painted with blood on her forehead and her own eyes missing.  Keane stumbles from the site and begins flashing back on past events that are intertwined with the present.

As he tries to make sense of what is happening, his wife appears by his side to offer clues to his past.  Keane finds himself fighting with his inner demon who he has dubbed Brother Shadow.  His reality is mixed with horrendous events that begin to cast doubts on his sanity.  He’s a man looking to be whole but can’t until he faces the past and brings it together with the present.

This is certainly a dark read, but at times you feel sympathetic to the character’s turmoil.  His search for redemption leads him to that dark place that many are afraid to admit having. Buy it here.
